What is Blackboard?

Blackboard is an open-source, e-learning software platform, also known as a Course Management System, Learning Management System, and Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The facility is designed to help educators create online courses with a focus on interaction and collaborative construction of content.

The focus of the Signites' Blackboard project is always on giving educators the best tools to manage and promote learning, but there are many ways to use Blackboard:

Blackboard has features that allow group of students to get in touch with each other, sharing their learning experience by discussion or blog as an education hobbyist.

Many institutions use it as their platform to fully conduct online courses, while some use it simply to upload the handout and notes from previous classes in order to save use of paper documents.

Signite believe members appreciate using the activity modules to get in touch with their tutor and receive their homework online as part of their interactive environment.

When you register on a Signite course your tutor will provide you a username and password to access your course log in on the tool bar to the right hand side of your screen.

If you experience difficulty accessing your Blackboard or negotiating the platform please email or ask your tutor to demonstrate how to log in and use this helpful tool to advance your sign language training.

Signite © 2010 British Sign Language, more commonly known as BSL training courses are available in a new deaf language course centre in Bristol. The training centre has meeting rooms and is also a social centre, so students may practice sign language skills with other higher education and adult learners. Signite BSL studies include Deaf Awareness Courses, BSL Level 1, BSL Level 2, Pre Level 3, BSL Level 3, Pre Level 6 and BSL Level 6 classes.
